The Association of Eastern-Westphalian and Lippe Archives „Arbeitskreis ostwestfälisch-lippischer Archive“ is a project-oriented network of regional archives of foremost state, municipal and ecclesial provenance. Starting in 2007 the association has joint forces to introduce two travelling exhibitions to the public, one centered on the Pogrom Night 1938 and another one on Migration into the region after the Year 1945. Its current project enters new territory by introducing an online exhibition which offers the opportunity not only to edit and publish digitized sources but also to make them available for use in schools, universities, community colleges and regional historical societies. Being a Web 2.0. project on World War I it offers a forum aimed at a continual exchange between users and archivists as experts.
The sources are being published in the form of digital copies, their contents briefly introduced, transcriptions provided where necessary and put into historical context. A tagging of the single documents allows for a different compilation of the single documents, photographs and files according to the specific research interest of the users and is suited to display the variety and complexity of the records made available by this network of regional archives.
The online exhibition on World War I by the association started on August 2014 and is being supplemented successively by additional digital copies.
The archives contributing to the project express a genuine interest in the exhibition visitors’ contribution of sources from their private collections in the form of forces letters, photographs, diaries and memoirs, which are supplemental in recording the experiences made in the field and the “home front”.
